1/365 2014 Week 40

week40

More fountains in Midtown, this one is just a bit arty, the fountain not my picture.

The image that gave me the most joy this week would have to be the tix and wristbands labeled “GA Pit For The Faithfull,” even if the 2nd l bothers me.

The 4s iPhone camera and the contrasty light don’t do the Clydesdale Ponies much good but I was pretty excited to see the horses while I was in St. Louis.

I walk past a “fruit cart” on my walk to work and I’m always struck by the way the bananas are stacked, and by their bright sunny color, so clearly that had to be a picture of the day.

I find myself to drawn to buildings of skyscrapers lately, usually in black and white, but I chose mine to be in color to better show the reflection of one in the other.

The crowd shot is from the Global Citizen festival in Central Park, and I’m a sucker for both “girl on shoulders” and the “starlight” of the crowd turning on their phone lights.

The pot of chicken soup was just what the doctor ordered.

I also really like the “swimming pool blue” fountain image, I love how it brightens the grays of midtown.

Best shot of the week is from a “sunrise run,” the clouds were so cool that morning. I realized later that I was not the only one to think so and that they were actually a thing, as in they had a name and were actually unusual.

It’s another rogue shot posted instead of the sunset shot I planned, this time I was distracted by the sun streaming down the train tracks.

My favorite shot of the week though was the “Nemo” kite image taken on Coney Island.

I also really love my “shadow self portrait” which is my favorite type of selfie, what makes this one is the golden light just after sunrise.

I set out to take a sunset picture and proceeded to choose the Frank Sinatra ferry, because, Frank.

Love finding the apples in the farmer’s market with the leaves still attached. Hello fall.

I’m a complete sucker for “stick figures in peril” though these are a bit less dramatic. Of course, I still don’t understand the person who looks at the Hudson and thinks, “ooh, let’s go for a dip.”

With no sun to chase, I really like my grey and silver toned image, and by toned I don’t meant to imply that I manipulated the color there… that’s how it looked as I was heading down the street.

My favorite shot of the week is definitely the one with the spread of clouds, I was pleased with my composition silhouetting the city and showing the expanse of sky. The sky was simply beautiful that morning, I love when the clouds scatter across it like that. Sitting here now I can’t recall if I was out early enough to have seen the pinks and oranges of sunrise, but either way I think I’d have chosen this image to post.

The hour of sunlight is shifting and once again sunrise runs are in my routine. In addition to the change in daylight hours we’ve had some cooler tempatures, so my first bread was baked. I quite enjoyed the process and there will be more breads to come (whether or not they’ll have the honor of picture of the day remains to be seen.)

I’m also fond of the shot above 6th Ave, it’s nice to have a perch on a nice day.

week35

My hands down best shot of the week is of the reflecting pool, taken at The Met in the Temple of Dendur. The natural lighting was perfect for the blues and greens of Central Park outside the window.

I was most impressed with the dancing, but my best shots were taken with my big girl camera – that’s my niece dancing her heart out with the Joffery Experience. It was an amazing performance, the kids did a fantastic job.

Tastiest shot of the week, Maryland Blue Crabs. Friends have moved back east which is great and since they have returned to the Chesapeake zone… I am hoping to eat a lot more crabby crabs next summer.

Oh, and that graffiti shot is from Baltimore’s Graffiti Alley a very cool spot to check out if you are in the area.

A close second for best shot of the week was also delicious! It’s an upside down plum polenta cake, recipe here.

I like how the purple pail is overly saturated and you’ll be pleased to know the fish was freed to live another day long before we left the beach. Next up, the local library and if you look real closely you can see some stuffed animals hanging out in the upper windows. The next image is also a local shot, and it seems the construction next door is really coming along.

Arcade Fire put on a GREAT show. And the better pictures were the ones I took with a proper camera.

I do not crochet, I knit, but my latest project has a crocheted edge – and I really wish I were better at crocheting.

My boogie board and the churning ocean – clearly a better shot could have been had I possessed waterproof housing for the phone.

week33

I don’t quite understand why the trees on the pier think it’s fall, we have a few more weeks of summer to go… the dome shot is artificial light and was taken in the elevator of the Flatiron building.

Bryant Park was full at lunchtime on a glorious day.

I really like the hot glare and sun spots on the ocean shot.

The “creative” image, is an ice cube sitting on top of a towel. It is what it is, it was late and I had nearly forgot to take a shot. Not much more effort went into the Morning Glory shot but I do like the way it’s growing around the stairs.

I’ve a thing for rocks (be they rock stars or nature’s own) and so, this may be my fave of the week, taken Out East on the bay.

week32

When I started this project my rule was only to use images from my iPhone for 1/365, this week I decided rules were meant to be broken because the quality difference between the super moon shots taken with my “real” camera and the few I tried with my iPhone were unsurmountable and that was what I wanted as my picture of the day. So, rather than take a lame picture in the 11th hour I posted my favorite from the Super moon shoot. Rules were meant to be broken, especially self imposed rules.

Next up, I like the symmetry of the window boxes and the way the colors of the flowers almost blend in with the brownstone.

The detail on the pineapple would be better with a true macro but I think I present a decent texture shot.

I also really like the Black Eyed Susans coming out of the wrought iron fence and the shot of my escort pacers on another run this week (okay, to be fair, the police department was doing their thing and our timing converged.)

So, that leaves the best shot for this week as the composition of the buildings, on 6th Ave around 41st, I liked the lighting, the reflection and the different architectural styles blending together a lot

week31

The best picture should have been the sun burning through the clouds, but to be perfectly honest I was in the midst of a run and was feeling good that morning and I really didn’t stop long enough to have really gotten the exposure right.

I’m overly fond of the “Mixed Media” image of the Lego Surfer, atop a crayon ocean, being watched by the shadow of a rubber shark. Lots of fun to create that one for both me and a few of my favorite little people.

As I look at the week’s images tonight I see that water, as drops and condensation, played a role in my focus. And I do very much like photographing water whether at home or moving in nature.
